The Maeli Winery – July

The name Maeli comes from marna and limo (marl and silt): two elements of sedimentary origin that characterize the soil on which the vineyards of the homonymous winery are cultivated. This small winery was born in the unique and wonderful context of Le Terre del Pirio, within the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills, where layers of white marl mix with limestone and trachyte, a typical rock of volcanic origin. An area also characterized by incredible biodiversity, an ideal environment to host a wide variety of plant species from the Mediterranean area.

“We care about respect and protection of the environment, therefore our approach to grape cultivation is agro-ecological: we do not use chemicals or pesticides and in the cellar we try to encourage spontaneous fermentation with the yeasts of the our grapes and we contain a lot of the use of sulphites”. This is the modern approach of the winery at whose reins we find Elisa Dilavanzo. The real protagonists of these wines, however, are the vines of the territory, the result of a link with tradition thanks to the cultivation of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere, which gives rise to two Bordeaux blends, but the yellow muscat is the master. Enhancing this grape in all its forms is a real mission for Maeli.

A gem of this small Italian winery of about 60,000 bottles a year: it is the only one in the world to vinify yellow muscat in five different versions. From sweet sparkling wine to the classic brut nature method, from wine refermented in the bottle according to the ancient ancestral method to still dry wine and passito. These five expressions give life to “La Via Del Moscato Giallo”, a tasting that is very successful in the cellar, at the end of which a small recognition is also issued to certify the knowledge of Moscato Giallo.

The wines chosen for you? Here they are!

Dilì Moscato Giallo Frizzante 2019

Grown on clayey and calcareous soils, this Moscato was harvested by hand and in boxes in the first ten days of September. A color between golden yellow with slightly orange and amber reflections. An opalescence given by the presence of suspended yeasts, with which the wine was bottled and according to the ancestral method. The nose reveals a powerful intensity, which releases aromas of flowers and yellow fruit such as apple, peach and exotic fruit. Dried fruit is found in the form of crunchy almonds and hazelnuts. In the mouth it is warm, the softness is balanced by a pleasant tannic sensation due to the skin maceration of the wine. Sulphurous and glazed notes make the wine bouquet wide and even more interesting. The suggested serving temperature is 10 ° C.

Softness and richness of aromas in the mouth well balanced by an acid vein and a savory finish that makes the finish complex and pleasant at the same time. Elegant and very persistent, versatile in combinations.
